Seronera Under Canvas

Style Tented camp
Rooms 12
From $340 pp/night
Board Full board, park fees excluded
Best for First safari, couples, anyone who wants the Seronera valley on their doorstep

Our default central Serengeti camp, and the one we book most often. It sits about twenty minutes from the Seronera river circuit, which means you are into good leopard country before the day-trippers arrive from the airstrip lodges.

Tents are proper canvas on raised platforms: bucket showers heated on request, flush loos, solar lighting, no generator hum after 10pm. Dinner is communal unless you ask otherwise, and the guides eat with guests, which is where most of the useful conversation happens.

What is good about it

  • Twenty minutes from the best resident-leopard country in Tanzania
  • Canvas and solar, so it is quiet at night
  • Guides eat with guests
  • Open year-round, unlike the mobile camps

What to know before booking

  • No swimming pool, and no plans for one
  • Mobile signal is unreliable and there is no wifi in the tents
  • Bucket showers mean roughly twenty litres, not a long soak
  • It is a working camp, not a hotel. Housekeeping happens while you are out
