A long day, and worth it. Leaving Arusha at 04:00 gets you through the Loduare gate at first light and down the Seneto descent road while the crater floor is still cold and everything is moving. You get the same six hours on the floor as anyone staying on the rim, without the cost of a rim lodge.

Expect roughly twelve hours door to door, seven of them in the park or on the crater floor.
