Most itineraries treat the Serengeti as one stop among several. This one treats it as the destination. Five nights, two different sectors, and no transfer days spent looking at the back of a truck.

It is built for people on a second or third safari, and for photographers, who tend to want the same thing: to be somewhere at the right hour, repeatedly, until the thing they are waiting for happens.

How the days run

Out before dawn, back mid-morning, long break, out again at four and stay until the gate hour. Your guide will happily sit at one sighting for two hours if that is what the light is doing. Nobody will suggest moving on because there is a checklist.

The itinerary

Met at Kilimanjaro International and taken to Arusha. Briefing over dinner, including a proper conversation about what you are hoping to photograph.

Overnight: Lodge in Arusha Meals: D

Short flight to Seronera airstrip and straight out. Afternoon along the Seronera river, which is the most reliable leopard country in the park.

Overnight: Camp, central Serengeti Meals: B, L, D

Full day. The valley holds resident lion prides, leopard in the sausage trees, and cheetah out on the adjoining plains.

Overnight: Camp, central Serengeti Meals: B, L, D

Full day, structured around whatever you found yesterday. If there is a kill or a cheetah with cubs, you go back to it.

Overnight: Camp, central Serengeti Meals: B, L, D

South to the Moru kopjes, or to Ndutu in calving season. Game driving all the way. This is a move, not a transfer.

Overnight: Camp, southern Serengeti Meals: B, L, D

Full day. Open country, long sightlines and the best cheetah odds on the northern circuit.

Morning drive, then fly back to Arusha and on to Kilimanjaro International.

Common questions

Not if you like being still. The Serengeti is the size of Northern Ireland and the two sectors on this trip are entirely different country. If you would rather see variety, the classic circuit is the better trip.
